Whiteley Shopping Centre opens after major redevelopment

May 2013

The former outlet centre was demolished and replaced by the new Whiteley Shopping Centre, which opened in May 2013 with 58 shops, restaurants and cafes. The redevelopment was a transformative moment for the town, providing a genuine retail and leisure destination with major high street names including M&S, Next, H&M, River Island, Fat Face and Boots. A Cineworld nine-screen cinema and a restaurant quarter with Wagamama, Pizza Express and others added evening and weekend appeal. The shopping centre drew customers from across south Hampshire and gave Whiteley a commercial identity that matched its growing population. The redevelopment cost over 85 million pounds and was accompanied by improvements to the surrounding roads and car parks.
