Meadowside Leisure Centre opens

Meadowside Leisure Centre opened, providing Whiteley with a purpose-built sports and leisure facility. The centre included a swimming pool, gym, fitness studios, a sports hall and a soft play area for young children. The opening of the leisure centre was a significant moment for the community, which had previously relied on facilities in Fareham, Locks Heath and further afield for swimming and indoor sport. Meadowside quickly became one of the most used community buildings in Whiteley, serving families, fitness enthusiasts and social groups. The adjacent play park and green space completed the recreational hub.
