Woodland Edge
Residential area backing onto retained woodland with nature reserve access
The Woodland Edge area runs along the eastern and southern margins of Whiteley's residential development, where the houses back onto retained woodland, copses and green corridors. These green margins are part of the original masterplan, which preserved existing woodland and incorporated it into the development as amenity space. The footpaths through the woodland connect different parts of Whiteley and provide access to Swanwick Lakes Nature Reserve to the south. Residents on the woodland edge enjoy a more rural outlook than those in the centre of the development, with trees, birdsong and wildlife on their doorsteps. The retained woodland includes mature oak, ash and hazel, and the understorey supports bluebells, primroses and woodland flowers in the spring. The area is popular with dog walkers and runners who use the paths through the trees.
