The Lanes Area

Whiteley's oldest residential area with good access to Swanwick station

The Lanes area encompasses the residential streets in the southern portion of Whiteley, closer to the original Whiteley Lane and the boundary with the older settlements of Swanwick and Locks Heath. This part of Whiteley has some of the earliest houses built in the development, dating from the late 1980s, and the neighbourhood has a more established feel than the newer areas to the north. The streets are characterised by a mix of housing types, with detached houses, semi-detached properties and some apartment blocks. Whiteley Lane itself is one of the few roads in the area that predates the modern development, running south towards Swanwick and providing an alternative route to the M27 via the older road network. The area is close to Swanwick railway station, making it popular with commuters.
