North Whiteley
Major new housing development with 3,500 homes, schools and community facilities
The major expansion area to the north of the existing town, North Whiteley is one of the largest housing developments currently under construction in Hampshire. Planning permission was granted in 2018 for approximately 3,500 new homes, two new primary schools, a secondary school, community facilities, playing fields and commercial space. The development is being built in phases across former farmland and woodland to the north of the existing Whiteley boundary, extending into Winchester City Council's area. New roads, a community hub and green corridors linking to Whiteley's existing path network are part of the masterplan. A new secondary school, replacing Henry Cort Community College in Fareham, is planned to open in 2027 with capacity for 900 pupils. North Whiteley represents a near-doubling of the town's size and is the most significant change to the area since the original 1980s development.
