Horse-Named Streets
Distinctive residential area with horse-themed street names and family housing
One of Whiteley's more distinctive residential areas is the group of streets named after horse breeds, located in the western part of the town. Mustang Avenue, Palomino Drive, Pinto Close, Persian Drive and similar names give this neighbourhood a slightly unusual identity. The housing here is a mix of family homes and smaller properties, built during the middle phases of Whiteley's development. The area is well connected to the shopping centre and to the school catchments. The horse-themed naming was one of several thematic approaches used by the developers to give identity to different parts of what was, at the time, an entirely new settlement. Other parts of Whiteley use woodland and herb names. The streets are quiet and residential, with cul-de-sacs and low traffic volumes, making them popular with families.
